About Me

Thomas Easterling has been teaching in Mississippi since 1992, and his work has appeared in a number of publications, including Brightleaf and The Oxford American. Easterling earned his undergraduate degrees from the school of hard knocks and the Louisiana Scholars College of Northwestern State University, and his graduate degrees from the University of Mississippi, where he won teaching and writing awards, and earned a dissertation fellowship for his scholarship on domestic imagery in the poetry of Robert Hass. While in Oxford, he decided to moonlight at The Oxford American, where he rose from intern to associate editor. You  can read snippets of his work at The OA on this site. Easterling currently teaches English at The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science, a public, residential high school for Mississippi’s academically talented juniors and seniors. He lives in West Point with his wife, Clay County Prosecutor Michelle Easterling, and sons, Grayson and Jack.
